Launch of New Poetry Collection by Brendan McCann
‘Erne Valley’ is a new collection of poetry from the prolific pen of Brendan McCann. It is his first book of poems to be released and spans a lifetime from the 1950s to the present. This collection of seven books is edited by Rebecca O’Connor, The Moth International Arts and Literature Magazine and was awarded an Arts Act Grant in 2017 by Cavan County Council. Cavan County Council Arts Office acknowledges the ongoing support of the Arts Council of Ireland. 
The book will be launched by Noel Monahan, acclaimed national poet, at Johnston Central Library in Cavan Town on Thursday 30 November 2017 at 7pm. 
About the Author
Brendan McCann is a playwright and poet from Belturbet, Co. Cavan. His award-winning plays have featured on the All-Ireland Drama Circuit since 1978, when his first play ‘Perri Como’s Leaving Town’ won the All-Ireland Rural Drama award.  Recently, RTE screened a half-hour film based on his border play ‘Volkswagen Joe’, which won over a dozen international awards including Best Short Drama at the prestigious Celtic Media Awards. Last year, his play ‘The Matter with Lazarus’ was short-listed for the Full-Length Play Award at Listowel Writers Week.


Noel Monahan, acclaimed national poet



Noel Monahan has published seven collections of poetry. His most recent collection: Where The Wind Sleeps, New & Selected Poems, was published by Salmon in May 2014. His literary awards include: The SeaCat National Award organised by Poetry Ireland, The Hiberno-English Poetry Award, The Irish Writers’ Union Poetry Award, The William Allingham Poetry Award and The Kilkenny Poetry Prize for Poetry. In 2001 he won The PJ O’Connor RTE Radio Drama Award for his play Broken Cups and in 2002 he was awarded The A.S.T.I. Achievements Award for his contribution to literature at home and abroad. In 2012 Noel received an Arts & Entertainment Award from Northern Sound Radio. His work has been translated into Italian, French, Romanian and Russian. His most recent plays include: The Children of Lir performed by Livin’ Dred Theatre and Lovely Husbands, a drama based on Henry James’ work and performed at the inaugural Henry James Literary Festival, 2010. His poetry was prescribed text for the Leaving Certificate English Course 2011 and 2012. His seventh collection of poetry: Cellui Qui Porte Un Veau a French translation of his work was published by Allidades, France in October 2014. Noel Monahan is co-editor of Windows Publications and he holds an M.A. in Creative Writing.
