Cavan’s day of youth and creativity – Saturday, 23rd June

Cavan will celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg – a national day of celebration of youth and creativity, on Saturday, 23 June with a full programme of events taking place around the county.

Funded by the Creative Ireland programme and delivered in partnership with Local Authorities and RTÉ, Cruinniú na nÓg Cavan will feature a wide variety of fun and creative events including story-telling, theatre, music, visual art exhibitions, light painting, circus, dance and more!

In Cavan Town, events kick off with storytelling from the renowned Niall de Búrca in Johnston Central Library at 11am. Undoubtedly one of Ireland’s finest yarn-spinners, Niall will give two performances of his ‘traditional tales’ at 11am and again at 12:15pm.

In collaboration with Cavan Comhairle na nÓg and Bliain na Gaeilge, Cruinniú na nÓg will host a Pop-Up Gaeltacht in Market Square, Cavan from 1.30pm – 5pm, with a host of activities and entertainment lined up, including Mad 4 Trad, Giggles the Gaelgeóir Clown, stilt-walkers, morph-suits and more. Comhairle na nÓg members will be on hand throughout the day to speak Irish with audience members and passers-by.

Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff will host a special Cruinniú na nÓg Garden Party for children with disability featuring train rides, face painting, costume characters, magic show, jumping clay, and precious pets.

Other highlights of Cruinniú na nÓg Cavan will be a character building and animation workshop with The Artful Badger in Cootehill Library, Storytelling with Niall de Búrca in Bailieborough Library, and a series of exhibitions, performances, and workshops organized in association with Cavan Youth Arts Lab. These include ‘I felt and I said at the Cavan Burren’, an exhibition in Dowra Courthouse, ‘Print and Process’ a workshop and exhibition at Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff, ‘How We Intertwine in Paper and Textile’, a workshop and exhibition in Bailieborough Library, and ‘Painting with Light’, an exhibition in Bailieborough Library.
