Cavan Drama Festival 2017

The line-up for the 71st Cavan Drama Festival has been announced with ten performances taking place at Townhall Cavan Arts Space from Friday, 17 until Sunday, 26 March.

 

The adjudicator for this year’s three-act festival is one of Ireland's best-known Drama Tutors and Adjudicators Tom Doherty

 

The festival opens on St Patrick’s Day, Friday, 17 March with the Ennis Players performing ‘The Colleen Bawn’ by Dion Boucicault in the open competition.

 

The following night, Saturday, 18 March, DADS will stage ‘The Odd Couple’ by Neil Simon in the confined category. Sunday, 19 March sees Ballyshannon Drama Society perform ‘The Real Thing’ by Tom Stoppard (Open).

Carrigallen’s Corn Mill Theatre will present their take on the Brian Friel classic ‘Philadelphia, Here I come’ in the open competition on Monday, 20 March, before Bailieborough Drama Group present ‘The Tide’ by Tara Marie Lovett (Confined) on Tuesday night.

 

Sillan Players will perform Seamus O’Rourke’s ‘The Trappe Family’ in the confined category on Wednesday 22 March, while Dalkey Players present Sarah Ruhl’s ‘Dead Man’s Cell Phone’ on Thursday evening (Open).

 

On Friday, 24 March, Phoenix Players perform Flann O’Brien’s ‘The Third Policeman’ in the confined section, before Corofin take on Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ on Saturday 25th March in the open competition.

 

The final show of the festival takes place on Sunday, 26 March as Sliabh Aughty Drama Group perform ‘Rabbit Hole’ by David Lindsay-Abaire in the confined competition.

 

Shows take place nightly at 8pm, and tickets are priced at €15 per show, including a free programme. Season tickets are also available for €80. To book tickets, call 049-4331287 or 086-2235386.
