Extern Traveller Group and Drumlin House

The

Extern Traveller Network recently invited young people from Drumlin House to visit their work space and participate in an arts workshop while enjoying the exhibition of Traveller work facilitated by the Primary Health Care Workers. Rita Kelly, poet and staff from Cavan County Council arts and community and enterprise offices attended this event also. The travellers spoke about their experiences and also what has been passed on from past generations. Primary Health Care Co-ordinator Ita Madden said “ we are really looking forward to welcoming the public and elected representatives to our forthcoming exhibition at Johnston Central Library, Cavan. This unique Traveller Portrait exhibition is a collaboration with the photographer Mike Stone and supported by Cavan County Council arts office. It is a very true representation of members of the Traveller Community at this time.   It is an exhibition that speaks about the Traveller experience in Ireland today.”

The Traveller Photographic exhibition by Mike Stone entitled “Ireland’s Minority – Is Anyone Listening?” will open on 21 October at Johnston Central Library and will travel to venues in County Cavan.
