Artist in Residence Open Call UCD College of Business

Artist in Residence OPEN CALL UCD COLLEGE OF BUSINESS 2017 The UCD College of Business, in partnership with UCD Parity Studios is very pleased to announce the call for our first artist in residence. UCD College of Business is committed to research, innovation and impact on business and society, and to transformational learning, in the world and for the world. We work to cultivate informed, agile, critical and ethical thinkers and doers by learning from diverse perspectives in diverse settings. We forge a collaborative and vital community by working together to nurture graduates, faculty members and staff to be ambitious and courageous in contributing to business and society and to act with integrity at all times.

As part of our goal to learn from diverse perspectives in diverse settings, a one year residency is offered to professional artists. This includes studio space at UCD Parity Studios, a fee of €7,000.00 and access to the lectures, research seminars and other resources of the College. The artist will have the opportunity to engage with researchers and students towards the creation of work related to the multifaceted issues in relation to Business and contemporary society.

This year the residency is open to visual, sound and dance/performance artists. Please note that residency does not include accommodation.

We invite applications from artists whose work addresses an aspect of Business in Society, areas of interest might include (but are not limited to) the individual in the digital era, interpersonal communications, systems of commerce, social entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, and the ways business and society depend on each other.

As part of our goal to forge a collaborative and vital community we are particularly interested in applications from artists who have a collaborative aspect to their practice (whether in the process of production and/or dissemination).

The principal aims of the scheme are to support mutual exchange between the artist and College staff, students and researchers and to explore areas of research, current and prospective, through the lens of artistic practice.

The Nevill Johnson Award ensures that at least one recent graduate of Fine Art is awarded a residency in 2017. Please indicate if you have graduated at either BA or MA level in the past two years.

Start date of residency: February 2017

  • use the studio space to develop your work on average two days a week, over the course of the year.

  • make connections and engage with other researchers through a mutual exchange of ideas throughout the year. While formal introductions to relevant researchers are made, many fruitful conversations have occurred between the artists and researchers through chance meetings on the corridor or during coffee breaks, so being on site is an important factor in the process.
