Marilyn was successful in her Artist Residency application to Dacia Gallery. This painting intensive program comprises of drawing and painting the figure from life, guest lecturers and a business of art course plus gallery visits. Additionally, Dacia Gallery will host a group exhibition of the completed artworks created during the program.
The Art Studio is located in the heart of New York City among all the major galleries in the city, providing maximum exposure to today’s contemporary art scene. Art walks were taken during the opening reception to give residency artists an insight into New York’s contemporary art scene, while creating a productive, illuminating and memorable time whilst networking with international artists at the gallery. Marilyn had applied in January for the Cavan Arts Professional Development Awards, this was a highly competitive process, Marilyn's extremely strong application lead to successfully receiving funding towards this opportunity.
Marilyn’s work ranges in different mediums throughout her practice, including painting, installation, drawing, collage and printmaking. Her current work explores the poise of historic portraits. Creating fine detailed portraits from a modern sitter that captures the essence of the Renaissance. Historic gold framing features as part of the artwork as it consummates the work as an object. Landscape is apparent within the portraits.
Marilyn hold's a Masters in Fine Art from National College of Art and Design. BA Honours Degree from Sligo IT. She has had residencies in CAMAC Art Centre, Marnay-sur-Seine, France and La Muse Artist’s Retreat, Carcassonne, France. Marilyn is a great promotor of the Arts in Cavan locally, nationally and internationally. Marilyn also has been extremely successful creating artist networks for Cavan, this was evident during the exhibition ‘Landscape and Memory’ which she curated in Cavan Town, in April 2015, which consisted of 22 international artists.
