Highlanes Gallery Open Submission 2020
Highlanes Gallery is delighted to announce its inaugural Open Submission exhibition and competition. Its objective is to support and highlight new work by artists living in Ireland, to encourage interest and engagement with contemporary art, and to raise the profile of ambitious visual art in society.
This new bi-annual Open Submission is open to artists living on the island of Ireland. This Open Submission has been developed responding to the social constraints of the current global situation, and acknowledging that many visual artists continue to create and work, though now, many not in their studios, but in smaller spaces, and domestic environments.
The Janet Mullarney Prize of €3,000 has been developed to honour the legacy of one of Ireland’s most important and influential artists, who recently died. Work from Janet’s last major solo exhibition, My Mind’s i curated and produced by Highlanes Gallery for national tour has been acquired to the Collection, where audiences and scholars will be able to access it for generations to come.
There will also be four awards of €500 for Highly Commended works.
A shortlist of works will be chosen by the 2020 judging panel and exhibited online at Highlanes Gallery from early June 2020.
Judges for Highlanes Gallery Open Submission 2020 are artist, Joy Gerrard, Sean Kissane, Curator of Exhibitions at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and Jerome O’Drisceoil, Gallerist, Green on Red Gallery.
