Moving Through and Around Exhibiton Opening Feb 5th

Moving Through and Around, a unique cross-border exhibition featuring the work of artists Helena Hamilton, Aoife McGrath, Sorca McGrath, and Simon Mills, alongside eight exceptional dancers from across the rural border regions of Cavan, Fermanagh-Omagh, and Monaghan opens Thursday 5th Feb 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Ramor Arts Centre, Virginia, Co.Cavan after a successful run at Strule Arts Centre Ommagh in 2025.

The dance partners include:

Ruth Clarke, Marion Crowe, Jamie Fagan, Jessie Keenan, Tina McGurren, Rebeca Sanchez, Aysha Treanor, and Dylan Quinn.

From Sean-Nós and set dancing to hip-hop, Flamenco, jiving, line dancing, Scottish Country, and contemporary styles, the exhibition celebrates the personal, cultural, and intergenerational stories that dance carries across our communities.

Visitors are invited to engage with the exhibition not just as observers, but as participants, joining the dance through visual, sonic, and choreographic encounters with the rhythms and movements that define our rural border region.

Dance Connects

This exhibition is part of Dance Connects in Rural Border Regions, a Creative Ireland funded initiative under the Creative Communities on a Shared Island scheme (2023–2027). The project brings together the local authorities of Cavan, Monaghan, and Fermanagh-Omagh, working with diverse dance practitioners and researchers Professor Aoife McGrath (QUB) and Dr. Victoria Durrer (UCD).

Building on the success of the Sites of Significance pilot (2023), this project uses a creative, research-led approach to foster sustainable cross-border collaboration and support the unique dance ecology of our rural communities.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Sharon Howe (Creative Cavan) and Emma Clancy (County Librarian, Cavan County Council) for their dedication and contributions to this project. We also gratefully acknowledge the vision, passion, and drive of Catriona O’Reilly, former Arts Officer at Cavan County Council, whose leadership was instrumental in getting this project off the ground.
