Culture Night 2025

Maccana was recently invited to perform on Culture Night at The Town Hall in Cavan where he presented a programme of original compositions including Athru, The Unseen Growth of Winter, Corona, Theme from "The Rising", and Mo thonnta.

Excerpts from that Culture Night performance can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/s3rCM4XYseA?si=N8XDjo2XG_UlXbla

Caomhan Maccana is a composer and pianist from the Cavan-Fermanagh borderlands, whose original piano works combine strong melody with minimalist, storytelling expression. Having composed music for radio drama and documentary for many years, he is now focusing on live performance of his own compositions. His music carries a quiet cinematic quality, comparable in tone to composers such as Arvo Part, Erik Satie, and Hania Rani.

Artist Statement

"The piano is a percussion instrument, close in spirit to congas. The art of composing is about finding rhythms and melodies that already exist in the ether, like the sculptor sensing the form that's already there. When certain notes are played with a certain rhythm, a piece begins to call from the distance - from our collective subconscious. The purest music happend when the inner music within us all is freed, shared and celebrated."

Maccana's next performance:

November 22nd 2025 - Townhall, Cavan

Official Opening of Christmas Visual Art Exhibition by Cavan Townhall Studio Artists.

Date and time:

21 October 2025 to 22 November 2025
