Bailieborough has a proud tradition of poetry and a great love of words and language. It is the town that birthed Tom MacIntyre, poet, playwright and man of letters. The local community are proud of the cultural history and the many great writers past and present who are inspired by Bailieborough and its hinterland.
Mairéad Donnellan is the Poet Laureate for Bailieborough Poetry Town and her poem in praise of Bailiborough is available below, with a short video presentation featuring Celine McAdam, wife of the late Tom MacIntyre and introduced by the artist Carmel O'Callaghan.
For Culture Night 2021, the artist Elena Duff has created art on windows and spaces throughout the town for all to enjoy. Bailieborough Creative Hub members have dressed up shop windows and business areas. Poetry Town Pocket Poems booklets are available from The Creative Hub and twelve short videos showcasing their poetry are now available in many outlets in the town. These videos are available on the Hubs social media platforms for Culture Night.
