Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra was formed in November 2010 by Sue King.   It is a vibrant group who have a diverse range of musical ability including young and mature, amateur and professional musicians ranging in age from seven to seventy.   Cavan County Council in conjunction with the Sinfonia wish to commission a composer to produce a contemporary piece of music for the Sinfonia, exploring the strengths of its members.   The new music will be performed by the Sinfonia and conducted by Sue King at venues in Counties Cavan and Wexford.   The new composition will be beneficial to the Sinfonia Orchestra and expand their musical potential.

Requirements and Timeframe:

The piece will be between 6 and 8 minutes.

The Composer will facilitate 3 workshops with the Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra of approximately 2 hours (each) in May, September and mid November 2015.

The final piece will be available to the Sinfonia no later than Thursday 25 June.

The Composer will be paid in line with the recommendations of the Contemporary Music Centre and their level of experience.

The successful Composer will provide parts and scores in digital format to the Conductor.

We will have a selection committee to select the successful composer the following criteria will be applied:

• Composer’s track record or evidenced potential
• Ability to deliver within timeframe and the criteria given
• Ability to challenge and appreciate the value of a community orchestra
