About the Artist:
My name is Thomas Higgins and I am from Drumalee Cross, Cavan. Eleven years ago, I overcome a brain haemorrhage and subsequent right leg paralysis. My love for art was a constant source of inspiration and expression during this time and throughout my life. I find solace and acceptance in the world of art. I love visiting exhibitions worldwide and immersing myself in art literature. My favourite medium is oil paints. I love recreating old photographs and pictures. I begin each painting by dividing the image into a grid, sketching the main elements, and gradually painting from dark to light.
Previously, I have exhibited my artwork in my hometown’s courthouse as part of the local Arts Festival, where I had the joy of selling one of my oil paintings. I was thrilled to participate in the Connecting Artists 2023 Programme and having the chance to showcase my art at the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Through this Programme, I aim to advocate for people with disabilities. I want to gain recognition as a local artist and challenge myself outside my comfort zone. I love being part of an artist community that shares my passion for art. The chance to show off my years of dedication and hard work excites me and I think it will prove my belief that I have something valuable to offer the world through my art.
I have my painting ‘Haystacks in the Midday Sun’ in the CA Collective exhibition in the RHA until 28th April.
