IN THE CURRENT | A PUBLIC ART PROJECT BY YVONNE CULLIVAN
In the Current, a public art project by Yvonne Cullivan, will be launched on Culture
Night, Friday September 19th, from 7.30-9.30pm, at the recently opened Civic
Centre, Belturbet, County Cavan.
In the Current consists of eight short films produced by the artist following a period of research and sustained engagement with residents and specialists from the Belturbet area. Drawing on aspects of local historical and contemporary culture and grounded in the physical fabric of the landscape, these sensory films blur the lines of fact and fiction, reality and the imagined, carrying information from peripheral locations, via the airwaves, through the water, in the ground, and across layers of time.
The project was commissioned under the Per Cent for Art Scheme with Cavan County Council, funded by the National Roads Authority.
The launch will include a debut reading of Field Notes, a long, narrative poem written by poet Tom Conaty in response to the films, and accompanied by music composed and performed by Finn Conaty. A bespoke App, designed to house the project in collaboration with Mobanode, will also be launched on the night. The App will contain the eight films, contextual information, essays, Field Notes, community links and project details.
In the Current will remain open to the public until October 5th.
Admission free. Opening hours are as follows:
Thursday 6 - 8.30pm, Friday - Saturday 11 - 1pm and 2 - 5pm, Sunday 2 - 5pm.
