Building Peace through the Arts Ballyconnell

Artist, Tim Ward has been selected for Building Peace through the Arts Ballyconnell.

The project seeks to develop a legacy artwork reflecting the Ballyconnell community’s journey towards peace.  The Building Peace through the Arts – Re-Imaging Communities Programme themes are community cohesion, regeneration through the arts, positive relations at local level, peace and reconciliation, and connecting communities.

Tim commenced work on the making of the new art piece in January 2015.  He will provide a public information meeting for community awareness.   He recently commenced community engagements with groups suggested by Ballyconnell Steering Committee.  They included the Active Retirement Group and Ballyconnell Youth Club.  Community arts and design workshops are ongoing with pupils at Scoil Naomh Bríd and Ballyconnell Central Church of Ireland National School.

Stories to be included on the Ballyconnell water sculpture ‘The Crossing Point’ will include Táin Bó Cuailgne, Queen Maeve, Connall Cearnach, Crossing Point, University of Tomregan, Tomregan Stone, St. Dallan, St. Mogue’s Clay, Ballyconnell Fair, First Ulsters, Sacking of Ballyconnell and others to be decided.  These stories will be professionally recorded and included in the final art piece.

This project is commissioned by Building Peace through the Arts Steering Committee Ballyconnell supported by Cavan County Council and funded through the Arts Council Northern Ireland.
