Cootehill Building Peace through the Arts Steering Committee has selected artist Tony Stallard for a public artwork to be sited at Halton’s Recreational Area, Cootehill.
Tony is creating a public sculpture entitled ‘The Cootehill Harvester’ based around the theme ‘The Woven Fabric of our Community: People, Heritage and Diversity in Cootehill’ which reflects Cootehill’s unique history as an important linen centre and how this trade led to the rapid development of the town and attracted people from diverse backgrounds.
Tony will host community workshops for various periods where the general public can get involved. This will include clay workshops for all ages. Clay is appealing to all ages and will reference the clay making done prior to the bronze fabrication. This will involve the local residents developing their own work in conjunction with the artist making the clay figure. This may lead to an exhibition of works from the local populace in conjunction with the final placing of the art work at Cootehill Library in June.
This project is commissioned by Building Peace through the Arts Steering Committee Cootehill supported by Cavan County Council and funded through the Arts Council Northern Ireland.
