Bullock Lane Studio Opportunity

Bullock Lane Studio Opportunity at Townhall Cavan

Marilyn Gaffney was the first artist to take up the Bullock Lane studio opportunity from Cavan County Council at Townhall Cavan in 2015.    Her successful residency culminated with an exhibition entitled Anamnesis at Townhall, Cavan in March 2016.    The studio was previously available at the former Council houses on Bullock Lane. The decision was made in 2015 to integrate this studio as part of the services to artists provided at Townhall, Cavan in conjunction the Creative Directors.

Artists who have worked at Bullock Lane in the past include: Andy Parsons, Tracy Hanna, Orla Galligan, Eimear Crowe and Cavan Youth Arts. Eimear Crowe’s Drumlin Spoons produced by the artist on the residency was exhibited at Johnston Central Library in 2015. The artist included work by the students from Breifne College who she worked with. Bullock Lane is an opportunity for artists to concentrate on their own work. There is also an expectation that the artist will provide an element of community engagement. Artists have interpreted this in various ways, during his residency Ross Cochrane worked with young children on visual arts workshops. Marilyn Gaffney interviewed people from County Cavan about their memories and buildings in the county that has resonance for them. Eimear Crowe worked with young people at Breifne College and showed work at Virginia Show as part of her community engagement.

Artists are now invited to apply for this opportunity to work at Bullock Lane Studio at Townhall, Cavan.    Artists will receive financial support of €125 pw and the studio facility. Additional support may be available to assist with the community engagement aspect.  The studio space is on the second floor of a listed building without wheelchair access.
